Currently a freelance oboist in the Los Angeles area, Mr. Lopez has performed and taught across California

Hailed by The Stockton Record, “Lopez impressed the judges during the Conservatory of Music’s annual concerto competition, earning the opportunity to accentuate [his] abilities as a soloist with the University Symphony Orchestra…”

As a freelance oboist and English horn player, Bennett Lopez  has performed across the United States with ensembles including the San Francisco Wind Symphony, La Mirada Symphony, and Whittier Regional Symphony. 

Connecting with his audiences, Mr. Lopez is proud of his community engagement efforts, offering chamber music to a wide variety of listeners. His former woodwind quintets created programs that highlighted the importance of chamber music for all music students and supporters. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he performed in a series of virtual concerts highlighting solo works for a Bay Area senior care facility. Bennett has worked with Quinteto Latino - a woodwind quintet based in the San Francisco Bay Area as a Seminario attendee and substitute oboist.

Bennett is inspired and engaged in performing new works by living composers. As a musician, fostering aspiring composer’s passion to write, he has also played a key role during Composers Inc.’s first ever orchestral debut concert. Bennett also performed as principal oboe in the Atlantic Music Festival’s annual composer orchestra week, recording 20 pieces in 5 days.

Bennett has performed across the world including Carnegie Hall,  Dvorak Symphony Hall, California Theater, Golden Gate Park, Ljubljana Theater, Slovak Radio Hall, Green Music Center, Community Concert Hall of Durango, CO, and the Menlo-Atherton Center for Performing Arts.

Passionate about education alongside his drive to perform, Lopez has maintained a private studio wherever he has traveled. As an active advocate for music in the public schools, Mr. Lopez has given clinics, sectionals, and taught ensemble rehearsals with various groups at local elementary, middle, and high schools. He currently teaches in the Washington Unified School District in California.

Bennett Lopez was a fellow at the Atlantic Music Festival and was an honors recitalist at the Music in the Mountains Festival in Durango, CO.

Mr. Lopez earned a Master’s degree in Oboe Performance at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA under the direction and guidance of Allan Vogel and Joel Timm. Previously, he received his Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education from the University of the Pacific where he was a Theodore Presser Undergraduate Scholar.

A majority of his time is spent practicing his instruments or making reeds. Bennett enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He loves going outdoors, cooking, and is a passionate Warriors basketball fan.
